3PL Returns Management
Picking, packing and dispatching orders is only half our day. With a dedicated team looking after returns from all our clients we process all goods that cannot find their way to your consumer or are maybe damaged and need assessing for destroying, placing into quarantine or back on the picking shelves.
With buyers returning 30/40% of all orders online, we are fully capable of taking in and assessing every pallet or parcel even in your peak season ready for booking back into our warehouse or packaging ready for coding and rating into grades for reselling elsewhere.
On a daily basis we:
- Evaluate packaging condition
- Evaluate item condition
- Create SKUs for graded/damaged stock to be picked
- Shelf stock ready for processing from any sales channel
What do you do with your returns?
With so many stock consolidators out there. How do you know you are getting the best prices for your graded returned stock? It has become a secondary industry. You don’t want to be sat on stock that dates or that simply costs you to store. Need some help with who to contact to sell your stock? We have a little black book of contacts that may be able to help you sell your returned stock. Talk to your account manager about your requirements.
How do we charge for Returns processing?
Most returns processes are more labour intensive than an outgoing pick/pack. More time in assessing your stock to grade it correctly for resale, quarantine or destruction. Start by giving us some numbers of returned orders over a period, a typical return scenario or two and we can work out the labour required to process your products.
You may have a high destruction rate of products. We can accommodate with a waste fee per item and working with our contractor, we can work with you to achieve all your environmental considerations/accreditations.
How quickly do we process your returned goods?
Most of our returns are processed within 1-3 working days depending on the complexity. We are modular in our processing capability, so we are easily able to scale up for all seasonal changes.
In order to reduce the costs of your return you must be very clear with your customers about how you expect them to pack the goods on their return journey, you need documented evidence of why they are being returned via text and photos ideally.
This is all after the sale, don’t forget that the purchaser is buying from your description, sizing and photos. You will get more returns if your products are not clearly described, you choose the right packaging and courier to transport the products safely and on time.
How does your customer's ship returning items to us?
You may offer free returns but this is only to keep the purchaser happy. Your margins will be quickly eroded if you are, but if you can afford to, why not? It’s a great selling point.
Why not charge the client a set rate for the shipping at the point of return so it’s hassle-free but at the point of returning transaction fees, you could deduct some of the fees. Splitting the bill and openly so that the client does not feel misled will be not such a hard thing to swallow.
Simplicity in Process.
All in the Preparation.
One of the great benefits of pre-prepping your products with SKU specific barcode labels and in postage ready packaging means very quick turn around from orders appearing on our system to being turned around and sent out the door to your customers.
As part of our contract packing and kit build Team, this is something we have helped facilitate for a number of our clients. We process orders for multi-site retailers, FBA and to help support your own sales channels.
